From Student to Successful Practice Owner: Misha Bedi’s Journey with Tax Store

A Journey That Started with Education

Misha arrived in Australia in 2004 to pursue a Master’s degree in Professional Accounting at RMIT. While studying, she wasted no time getting hands-on experience in the field. Her early career included roles at well-regarded public practice firms such as Shaw and Associates, Brown Baldwin Accountants, and Smith Coursiro & Associates. These positions gave her exposure to all facets of accounting, from bookkeeping and financial accounting to corporate accounting, GST, taxation, and SMSFs.

Her experience broadened further with corporate accounting roles at Metro Trains and Red Cross, before stepping into self-employment in 2015. Working independently gave her the opportunity to serve individuals, sole traders, partnerships, and small corporate clients — and laid the groundwork for her next big step.

Becoming a Tax Store Partner

In June 2017, Misha joined Tax Store, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her career. The appeal of the Tax Store model was clear:

“It’s fantastic — it gives you the liberty to explore and grow with confidence, all while having head office as your shelter.”

One of the initial challenges was developing a business plan, something that seemed daunting at first. However, with guidance from Tax Store leadership this became a solid foundation for her practice.

Reflecting on her journey, Misha sees every challenge as a learning curve. Her advice for others is simple yet powerful:

“Put your learning during training into practise — blindly. It works.”

Leading with Purpose

Now a proud and capable business owner, Misha leads her team with a focus on empowerment and education. She’s particularly passionate about supporting SMEs, helping them grow by getting the fundamentals right — starting with proper bookkeeping and ethical business practices.

“We go beyond tax. We educate clients from the basics and help them grow financially while ensuring compliance.”

Her practice stands out by being local, approachable, and tech-savvy — leveraging the latest AI tools to serve clients more efficiently and effectively.

The Tax Store Difference

What Misha enjoys most about being part of the Tax Store network is the prompt support, access to learning resources, and strong professional networking. The franchise model, compared to working independently, has given her the confidence to lead a successful practice, without feeling isolated.

Her message to anyone considering joining the Tax Store family?

“GO FOR IT.”
